Part-Time Certified Iowa Peace Officer

The city of De Soto, Iowa, is located off exit 110 at the intersection of Interstate 80 & Highway 169 and possesses a population of 1, 000 + citizens. De Soto is located about 10 minutes from the Des Moines metro. Established in 1868, De Soto has always taken immense pride in our small-town values. The De Soto Police Department is currently comprised of the Police Chief, one full-time officer, four Reserve Police Officers, and an administrative assistant.
Job position description: The City of De Soto is continuing to grow with many additional residential and commercial infrastructure projects beginning in 2025. With the growth of the city and expanding opportunities in 2026 and beyond, the city is looking to hire a part-time Police Officer beginning July 1, 2025. The officer selected will serve up to twenty hours per week at $31/HR.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently certified through the State of Iowa
- A physical fitness test is not required if already certified through I.L.E.A.
- POST is not required if certified by I.L.E.A
- A Psychological Exam is required if the officer has had a break in law enforcement service of over 180 days. A psychological exam is valid for one year. If a psychological exam has been taken in the last rolling year, an MMPI transfer can be ordered via ILEA.
- A complete background check, including fingerprints, is required if the officer has had a break in law enforcement service of over 180 days
- Officers will be required to maintain all ILEA certifications and state training requirements either through their full-time agency or with the aid of De Soto Police Department
- Applicants selected to continue in the process with be offered an interview with De Soto Police Department staff and city officials
