De Soto is a city with a rich history that was founded in 1868 following the construction of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad through the territory. The City was named after a railroad official with the last name of De Soto who set up the train depot that used to be a feature of De Soto in years past.
One of our long time citizens – Carol Lee, researched extensively and wrote a book in celebration of our 150th Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2018.
You can purchase the History of De Soto – 150 Years book at City Hall for $20.00.
